Church Road, Hayes & Yeading United
Sunday 24th April 2011
Another Sunday, and another three reviews! It's been a busy week with work and various other nuisances, but a few days off saw me able to get down to London and meet up with Shaun of the 100 football grounds club alongside a few other Gateshead fans who had all made the long journey down from the north-east. Sadly they weren't rewarded with a win, but I think everyone could foresake that to allow Hayes & Yeading to enjoy their last game at the ground, as Church Road closed its doors, not quite for the last time, but for the last competitive game the club will play there.
Following that, it was off up north to Wigan and a chance to see some Rugby League at long last, with the Good Friday derby against Saints ending in dramatic fashion, when Liam Farrell went over the line with practically the last move of the game to come from 24-22 to win the game 28-24 thanks to Pat Richards conversion. Always nice to beat your local rivals, and more so in such fashion! As usual Wolves did their best to dampen the mood 24 hours later, conceding a late goal to Fulham to only gain a point that still leaves us in the relegation zone, but with good weather, time off work and a new ground tomorrow at Bedworth, then the moaning can wait for a little while longer!
After Bedworth, next Saturday I'll be at Bewdley, before next Sunday in Birmingham as Wolves look to get some much needed points at St Andrews. Until the next three...
